It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all documents required in the application process are received by Head Office by the application deadline. The Office collects data only and will not call to let an applicant know that documentation is missing.
Applicants who may be concerned about whether references and transcripts have been received should contact Head Office for an update on the contents of the file.

All applicants for BCACC membership should note the following:
If you are considering applying, first familiarize yourself with the criteria for registered membership in the Association, and check the application deadlines for this year.
Your application will be considered incomplete until all of the documentation on this checklist has been received. We suggest that you print the checklist for your records.
Item 1:
APPLICATION FORM is to be completed and the certification section signed indicating that you have read and understood BCACC’s Scope of Practice, and our Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards of Clinical Practice with its accompanying Standards.
Note: Have each regulatory organization you have been a member of forward a Letter of Good Standing to BCACC. (See Part 2, #2 of Application Form).
Item 2:
REFERENCE FORMS (at least 2) must be completed and sent directly from the referees to the BCACC Head Office. One of the references must have supervised your clinical work; the other can be a colleague.

Submit evidence of a minimum of 100 hours of clinical supervision, which must be documented on the Clinical Reference Forms provided in the application package. If the 100 hours were supervised by more than one supervisor, each supervisor must complete a Clinical Reference Form for the number of hours she/he supervised.
A. Qualifications of the Clinical Supervisor:
To be acceptable to the Committee, a “qualified professional” who provides the formal supervision required under bylaw 12(1)(f)iii must be a counselling professional who meets the following criteria:
1. The supervisor was appointed, by a university acceptable to the Board, to supervise a practicum or internship in a Master’s level counselling program.
OR
2. a) the supervisor is a registered member in good standing of a mental health profession that has third party accountability; OR
b) the supervisor has provided evidence of advanced skills in clinical counselling acceptable to the Committee equal to or greater than those which apply to members of the Association; OR
c) the supervisor holds a minimum of a Master’s degree that is acceptable to the Board and would otherwise meet or exceed the Association’s membership requirement;
AND
d) the supervisor has a minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience as a practicing counsellor or equivalent relevant experience before being acceptable as a supervisor to the Registration Committee.
B. At least 25 of the supervised hours must be directly observed by a clinical supervisor. The clinical supervisor will witness clinical work in one or more of the following ways:
i. direct observation of sessions
ii. review of video-taped sessions
iii. review of audio-taped sessions
iv. co-counselling
v. co-facilitating
C. The remaining 75 hours of clinical supervision may be comprised of a combination of the following:
i. case consultation
ii. group supervision
iii. file review
iv. case management
D. Supervision which occurred prior to the start of the Master’s program will not be considered.
Item 3:
Your RESUME must be current and include:
a) General Academic Qualifications
b) Counselling Training
c) Work Experience
Item 4:
TRANSCRIPTS must come directly from the educational institution to BCACC Head office.
A. The following broad based counselling courses are required – At least 4 of the 6 courses must be at the graduate level:
a) normal development and abnormal psychology;
b) counselling and personality theories;
c) group therapy theory and practice;
d) family therapy theory and practice;
e) basic research design, and;
f) ethics
B. In cases where official transcripts do not contain course titles, the applicant may be required to provide course descriptions.
C. Transcript evaluation from an international credentials evaluation service acceptable to BCACC will be required for applicants whose degrees were obtained outside Canada and the United States.
Item 5:
CURRENT CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK
In order to complete the registration process, you must provide a current (completed within the past 6 months) and clear criminal record check.
The criminal record check will be obtained at your expense.
Instructions:
• Visit your local police department, in person, to have them perform a criminal record search. Many police departments will now only issue the criminal record check to the individual. It is acceptable for you to fax/mail/email us a copy directly. If they require a contact name, please reference BCACC’s Registrar, Angela Burns.

YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE PROCESSED WHEN THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED AT BCACC HEAD OFFICE. You may be contacted by a representative of the Office of the Registrar for additional information prior to your application file being forwarded to the Registration Committee for adjudication. You can expect BCACC to notify you as to the Committee’s decision within two weeks of the Registration meeting.
The BC Association of Clinical Counsellors conforms to the requirements of the British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Your application information will be used to determine your eligibility for membership only. An incomplete application file will be held for a period of three years from the date the information was received before it may be destroyed without notice to the applicant. After three years an application must be resubmitted according to current criteria for membership.
