Skills for Mindful Living Series

The Skills for Mindful Living series is a BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) community service initiative (Public Presentation Project), developed in collaboration with the Adler School of Professional Psychology. The project is designed to provide opportunities to the Vancouver community to develop healthy strategies for living, and skills to enhance family relationships.

These sessions are an open to the public, series of FREE, educational workshops designed to provide participants with opportunities to develop strategies and skills for mindful living.  It is our hope that the series will promote healthy self, family, and social relations, and enhance connections with local health and counselling support services, while showcasing the talents and knowledge of our membership. 

Workshops are open to 100 registrants and while there is no fee for participation, donations are welcome.  Proceeds from each workshop will be invested in local, community-based charities.

Workshop Description:

This presentation will begin by examining the differences between acute and chronic pain.  We will then discuss the complex processes that contribute to chronic pain.  From there we present different strategies on managing chronic pain (pacing and the ABCDEF model), and we end by discussing the stigma that people in pain must deal with.  We hope you will join us for this information packed presentation.

Presenters BIO:

Patrick Myers received his training in chronic pain management during his PhD internship with the WCB in Edmonton, Alberta.  Patrick continued to hone his pain management skills while employed with CBI, an independent rehabilitation facility.  However, the lure of the mountains and the ocean drew Patrick back to Vancouver where he now works with an EAP and maintains a small private practice on the North Shore and in Vancouver.

We are very pleased to offer the Vancouver workshops at the Adler School of Professional Psychology, centrally located at 1090 W. Georgia at Thurlow. All workshops run from 7:00 – 8:30 (registration at 6:30). Arrive early for best seating options and enjoy this informative experience
