Clinical Supervisors and Internships

Supervision or “snoopervision”?
Me, I won’t put up with snoopervision for 2 minutes. I’ve not worked without supervision for more than a few weeks.
It is there to provide what a counsellor needs in order to be the best possible counsellor they can be.
If that means talking through a therapeutic relationship, or a particular session, so be it. If it means discussing the ethics of the situation, so be it. And if it means dealing with some of the counsellors “own stuff”, then that is appropriate, too. So is sharing experience and resources.
Until a year ago, I was directing and developing counsellor training programs in the UK. I provided group supervision and oversight for approximately half the students. Multiply by 10 years; that is a lot of supervising. In addition, I had (still have) a private counselling practice and a small, international group of supervisees.
Qualifications and things? PhD from UBC in philosophy, applied ethics. That sometimes comes in useful. Research MA in counselling from the University of East Anglia. Post graduate diplomas from UEA in person-centered counselling and in experiential psychotherapy (which means “focusing”). RCC. Senior Registered Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Certified Focusing Professional. And I publish quite regularly. (Articles are on the website.)
I work mostly by telephone and e-mail—because I live in Clearwater—and I find it really does work. I use focusing in a gentle sort of way, but what I mostly say is: This is counsellor-centered supervision…

Clinical Supervision Available – Surrey
I have worked in the counselling field for over 20 years. I practised as a therapist in a wide range of settings from multiple theoretical perspectives. I have been trained in various modalities such as CBT, solution-focused, strengths-based, narrative perspective, family systems, behavioural family therapy, and many other areas. My intention is to apply a particular perspective/modality which will meet the needs of my clients/supervisees. I have sound knowledge and experience of working in multicultural settings both as a therapist and a supervisor. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, domestic violence, marital discord, relationships issues, diversity issues, and any child protection concerns. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. A majority of my clinical practice was in school (School Counsellor) and mental health settings with various community agencies. I have also worked and trained outside Canada for several years. I worked in the United Kingdom for 12 years as a therapist.
I believe that clinical supervision is a collaborative process between the supervisor and the supervisee. I am a graduate of City University of Seattle (Masters in Counselling) which enriched my knowledge in clinical supervision thoroughly. I am available to offer clinical supervision to practising therapists and counselling students. A sliding scale cost can be negotiated for counselling students.

Clinical Supervision and Internship Seekers
Feb 10 – Mar 14 – Practicum Supervisors Needed – Lower Mainland & Fraser Valley
Dear Colleagues,
Are you or your agency interested in supervising a Master’s-level practicum student? We are looking for sites interested in taking our students May 2012, September 2012, January 2013 and beyond.
The Adler School of Professional Psychology is a graduate level professional school with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program. We have the privilege of partnering with many community agencies and private practitioners throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and beyond to provide high quality training experiences for our students. Please note that while the Adler School recognizes and greatly appreciates the commitment of practicum supervisors, neither practicum supervisors nor practicum students are paid for their involvement in the practicum experience. We have found that supervisors typically choose to supervise a student due to their desire to participate in the mentoring and training of a student and to offer a lower cost service option to their clientele.
Depending on the nature of your practice or agency, you would have the option to support one of the following:
1) A primary practicum – students are required to complete 200 hours of direct client contact and a total of 700 hours practicum experience.
2) A secondary practicum – typically 20-50 client contact hours, as students are obtaining training to supplement a primary practicum.
If you are interested in talking further about the possibility of partnering to accept Adler practicum students, please contact me at mmandrusiak@adler.edu or 604-482-5525. Thank you for your interest and thanks to all of you who already do such great work with our students.
Sincerely,
Michael Mandrusiak, Psy.D., R.Psych.
Director of Training and Community Service
Adler School of Professional Psychology
