Rebecca Olds

Children are one third of our population and all of our future.

I specialize in children, teens and families. I believe that parents do the best they can with the tools they have been given – tools that can be learned and expanded through counselling. I have specific knowledge and experience in the areas of:

– child and teen anxiety
– parental anxiety
– adoption issues
– behaviour management
– emotion coaching
– sleep consultations
– play and art therapy

I graduated with my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University, and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) (member #17809). I work primarily with individual children (6-12), individual teens (ages 13+) and parents.

My counselling style is solution-focused and empathetic. I only use and provide evidence-based tools and treatment. I promise a safe space to listen to your concerns, but will also give you suggestions on how to best improve your situation. My style is warm, practical and non-judgmental.

For children six and below, I normally suggest parenting support instead of individual counselling with the child. For children six and up, I offer video counselling which consists of a blend of play therapy, art therapy and talk therapy.

I have had the honour of supporting numerous individuals in various community, hospice, EAP (employee assistance programs), and clinical settings. My background includes group facilitation and design of child anxiety workshops at The Children’s Foundation. Through my EAP background with Family Services EAP, I have also conducted workshops for major organizations and school districts across the lower mainland on topics including compassion fatigue, stress and anxiety management and mental health in the workplace for managers.

I am committed to maintaining a practice that is sensitive to diversity and dedicated to client advocacy. My therapeutic approaches are evidence-based and vary according to clients’ needs: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Play-based CBT and Social Skill development, Emotional Regulation Skills, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Conscious Breath Work, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples.

At this time, I am available for telephone or video counselling and am taking new referrals.
