Region 5 Langley
Peer Support Group: Connecting and Collaborating
Facilitated by Karen Cook, MA, RCC
An invitation to gather
Often another’s experience of our work gives us a new way to think about ourselves and our clients in order to facilitate understanding, change and healing. The intention of this gathering is to both create a place to connect with fellow therapists, and to co-create greater excellence within our own therapeutic practices. It is a space where each member can bring a case situation to receive compassion, and find peer support, new understandings and therapeutic suggestions.
Process: Members are invited (though not required every time) to bring a short 5-minute outline of a client case to share. Fellow therapists will contribute with questions, comments, ideas, and possible cautions, along with new considerations and resources from their various experience and knowledge backgrounds. All client information is to be confidential so please use pseudonyms or roles to describe the individuals: father, mother, son, daughter, etc. and change identifying details. Through mutual peer support the aim is to help reduce the burn out and isolation that can be consistent with private practice work.
Collaborative Case Study Format: A member speaks about the case for about 5 minutes, followed by fellow therapists asking questions, making observations, and offering alternate options they might consider if it were their client. Following a brief outline of a case, the aim is to have approximately 15 – 20 minutes for discussion and dialogue regarding each case.
We look forward to you joining us!
